> DESCRIPTION

Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects is pleased to present new works by Alice Könitz in the Berlin gallery space.

The artist presents a small sculpture consisting of three plaster figures and several rocks situated on a mirrored plexi disc. The disc is supported by wooden walls featuring posters of birds and tractors. The sculpture functions as the central anchor point for a series of works that are creating an expanded field for this work. Featured are a stainless steel water fountain, a wooden geometric sculpture that resembles a shelter and a series of wall elements. Alice Kőnitz's sculptures describe the intersections between body and space - they explore connotations of public and private architecture in a close relationship to the human body.

Alice Kőnitz was included in this year's Whitney Biennial and her work has been recently reviewed in an opening review in ArtForum by Michael Ned Holte. She received her MFA at the California Institute for the Arts, Valencia, after graduating from the Academy Düsseldorf, Germany, as a Master Student. Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions at the University Art Museum, California State University Long Beach; at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE), and at the Center for Land Use Interpretation, Wendover, Utah. Her work has been included, among others, in "Half Square Half Crazy" at the Villa Arson, Nantes, France; in "International Paper" at the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; in the Tirana Biennale 1, Albania; and in "Sundown Salon" at the Schindler House, presented by the MAK Center for Art & Architecture at the Schindler House. This is her first solo exhibition in Europe.

Susanne Vielmetter Berlin Projects is located at Holzmarktstrasse 15/18 in Berlin Mitte. From the U/S train stop Jannowitzbrücke turn right and walk approximately 300 meters towards the "Aral" gas station. At the "Aral" gas station turn right towards the galleries which are located in the arched spaces underneath the rail road tracks.
Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 11 am - 6 pm.
