Ascan Crone Gallery was founded 1982 in Hamburg by Ascan Crone and Mechthild von Dannenberg.

In 1998 their long time business partner Andreas Osarek took over the gallery and changed the name into Crone Gallery.

From the beginning the gallery program focussed on international contemporary art. Since Andreas Osarek is in charge of the program the acquisition of young artists reshaped the gallery profile. Again the gallery has become an important contributor to the present day artistic discourse.

From October 2001 on Crone Gallery operated both in Hamburg and Berlin, where it is located in Kochstraße 60— in close vicinity to other internationally reknown galleries and to the famous Friedrichstraße.

What started out as the Berlin branch of Crone Gallery, has now become it’s main office and exhibition space.

In 2004 the Hamburg location was closed. At the same time Crone Gallery doubled it’s exhibition space in Berlin.

The large storefront linked with the previous exhibition space now serves to display the established artists of the gallery, whereas the intimate situation of the backroom offers the opportunity for more experimental approaches and younger artists.
