> STATEMENT

My passion for Art began in High School where I graduated with honors as an Art Major. Unfortunately my teacher wasn't a fan, which subsequently made me work harder in class. To her surprise, my thesis project was a finalist in the nation, and my work was chosen to exhibit for a month in the local artists expo in Wollongong, Australia.

Although not continuing my studies in Art, I began to challenge myself, believing the more you do, the better you become. I guess I would call myself self taught, and due to my style which matures with each piece I create, I find it a positive aspect rather than a obstruction, as my work is inspired by the everyday life. Although technical instruction can have its advantages, I didn't want to find myself tied down with rules of what you can and cannot do, as to me, art is an individual expression that should come from the freedom of the mind. Art is a brilliant representation of individuality, not only for the artist, but more important, of the interpretation from the spectators.

Since the late 90's, my work has evolved into what I consider contemporary pop art with a splash of the intangible to generate a backdrop; each piece has its own flavor of life. Some have a slight abstract feel where the colors and shapes merge together, but ultimately the subject is apparent from an initial glance. My general goal is to have an identifiable image lift from the canvas, and the surrounding environment draw you in closer to investigate the world I've created.

After tearing off the canvas wrapping with a creation in mind, I open my mind's eye to photos that either friends or myself have taken, and manipulate the image into a more visually appealing depiction. Adjusting the contrast and colors, I then commence to overlay several images into a unique, stylish and vibrantly edgy visual. At that point, I embark on the journey of creating my inspiration from the everyday... the everyday enhanced.

When I've finished a piece, it makes me proud to hear what others have experienced from my work; it creates a world beyond my sole imagination and cultivates numerous diverse observations that in turn, challenges myself to review it with their perception in mind. Therefore, my mind is constantly expanding, and the world and the people in it subsequently influence my next canvas to dream upon.
