The richly detailed hair in my work frames and falls behind negative spaces.  These areas, which would possess unique identifiers such as facial features, in some cases remain undeveloped, thus merging the blank background to the latent foreground.  This separation drops the hair into a suspended middle ground, reinforcing the importance of the voids left on the raw paper.  The emotion of the drawn elements is enhanced by the composition presenting portraits that run off the edges of the paper and push the suppressed imagery to points of interest outside the frame.
