In the Small Gallery, Blue McRight will present 55 small oil paintings from the series entitled “On the Lawn.” Created on sketchbook paper, these works possess a rare, diary-like intimacy. Several larger oil-on-masonite pieces will also be shown in the Small Gallery, and “Swarm”, an installation of disturbing red lawn ornaments, will be featured in the Main Gallery’s newly remodeled entry courtyard. McRight’s work incisively entrenches itself in an ongoing dialogue between nature and culture, and through this dialogue she uncovers the psychological, socio-economic, and environmental dimensions and paradoxes of a seemingly benign landscaping convention: the American lawn.
