ArtSlant maintains a calendar of exhibits and events in each ArtSlant city.
A rich resource for the artist, the collector, the curator and the art lover.
Claremont Graduate University’s Arts & Cultural Management Program is proud to present the Exhibition Methods Practicum course as a vehicle for professional and creative projects.
This student-organized exhibition is an investigation of what the students believe to be a presently occurring socio-cultural transition. Using both historical and contemporary works of art from the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College and the Pomona College Museum of Art, along with works from local Claremont artists and Los Angeles galleries, Moving Past Present will examine the liminal space created by moments of uncertainty, ambiguity, and rapid structural change. The illumination of this space via the exhibition of artwork is, first and foremost, an attempt to create an open dialogue regarding the intersection between personal and cultural conditions and how this socio-cultural transition might be understood as a contemporary Zeitgeist.
The Exhibition Methods Practicum course is comprised of students from a variety of disciplines including Arts and Cultural Management, Cultural Studies, Fine Arts, and History. This course is designed to offer both theoretical and practical foundations for students pursuing careers in the arts and other cultural fields by providing hands-on experience in all aspects of exhibition planning including budget management, institutional collaboration, public relations and outreach. The focus of this year-long practicum is the development and execution of an exhibition that will showcase new research through the use of the Claremont Colleges art collections.
