“ILL MORPHOLOGY,” new paintings by Anthony Ausgang, Thomas Han and Joe Ledbetter. Opening reception on June 9 from 8 PM to midnight; show runs from June 9 to June 30.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The CoproNason Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the three person show “Ill Morphology,” featuring the Low Brow paintings of Anthony Ausgang, Thomas Han and Joe Ledbetter. These artists depict parallel cartoon realities, each world inhabited by a different crew of morphed-up animal characters. Although each artist has a unique style, the end result is a surprisingly cohesive universe.
Anthony Ausgang has been showing his ‘toon paintings in Los Angeles since the mid 1980s. Using bright, psychedelic colors, Ausgang paints anthropomorphic cats as they seek to usurp human authority.Newcomer Thomas Han shows off an ethereal world of floating pills and utilitarian ‘toon entities who have joined forces to ensure a smooth running non-reality. Painter and toy designer Joe Ledbetter riffs on vintage Cubist mannerisms with his faceted rabbits and radical animals ofhitherto unknown species.
These three artists have joined forces to engage in a cultural skirmish against the forces of artistic entropy and are regarded as cultural harbingers. Each of these artists has been covered in the avant-pop art magazine Juxtapoz. and their work can be found in highly regarded private and public collections.
