16 reasons
Lists. The possibilities are endless. I like making lists. I feel energized and focused while writing one, as if something good is about to happen. There is an air of expectation – a hint of accomplishment – in a finely crafted list. I wonder when I made my first list? I hope I wasn’t too young because as much as I like lists I also recognize the demands of lists. There is a profound belief in structure that comes with a list, and sometimes this spells P-R-E-S-S-U-R-E as in the Get-It-Together variety.
The one thing I have learned: Lists are Negotiable. And there is always the 'crumple and toss' if things get out of hand. My personal list aesthetic centers around bullets rather than numbers. Bullets or stars or dashes – something along those lines. I use numbers also, usually with circles around them, but prefer images, unless I am counting something of course. Like top 10 or 16 reasons or 1000 places. Usually my lists are messy. In fact, I am very messy when it comes to writing. Give me a form to fill out and all hell breaks loose. Try as I might I cannot stay within the spaces. My handwriting becomes impossibly large and unreadable. I usually have big cross outs and little arrows or carrots with inserts or explanations. Thank you-know-what most of my form filling-out is now on the computer...neatness achieved.
Of course there are those who are absolutely anti-list. I understand the now-ness of having no preconceived anything. Just let it all unfold. Good for a rose but not so effective for going places and doing things. I mean, afterall, what more does a rose have to do than sit there and look pretty? What kind of a list would it need anyway (?): unfurl that petal; shake off that gnat; a little more orange on the tip…
Which brings me to artslant (that being the mention of color)...and
Mylist is a handy little feature that lets you make - surprise - Lists! You can make lists of:
How to Use Mylist The button for MYLIST is found at the bottom of listings, or in the actions box. It looks like: (check box) add to mylist.
Sidebar: Some people say we should take the check out of the box because it looks like it’s already done. This makes sense and we may have to change it (put that on my list of things to correct on the website). But, for now, it’s not done until you click on it. Then a dialog box comes up and asks you to name your list. Easy. First item listed. You can make as many as you want. They will forever live under MYLIST on your menu bar in the Refine box.
